Palehua Ward Conference was on March 30, 2025 at Makakilo Stake Center on Makakilo Drive. The theme for their ward conference was Doctrine and Covenants 18: 22 - 23, "And as many as repent and are baptized in my name, which is Jesus Christ, and endure to the end, the same shall be saved. Behold, Jesus Christ is the name which is given of the Father, and there is none other name given whereby man can be saved;"
Bishop Paet shared that faith is something that is true or truth that you have control over. He emphasized that faith and repentance are not one time events, but a lifelong process. Bishop Paet went on to share that the Lord blesses us with our righteous desires when we prioritize Him in life. He closed by inviting members to lay aside their weapons of war as a sacrifice for Jesus Christ.
President Owan shared a story about a patient who surprisingly didn’t recognize him as Dr. Owan, despite having been under his care for over five years. This experience led President Owan to reflect on whether he himself would recognize the Savior if they were in the same room. He encouraged members to consider their own relationship with the Savior, asking if they are progressively coming to know Him better. President Owan also shared two ways to deepen this relationship: by following the Savior's example and by serving Him.
Ward Conference for Kalaeloa Ward was on March 30, 2025 at the Kalaeloa chapel on Lauwiliwili street. Their ward theme for 2025 is section four of the Doctrine and Covenants.
"Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.
"Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.
"Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;
"For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul;
"And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.
" Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.
"Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Amen."
Bishop Fredricks talked about the song, Ekolu Mea Nui that was written in 1925. He explained how the lyric for this song are based on the scripture in 1st Corinthians 13:13, "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." Charity encompasses the two great commandments, to love God and to love others. Bishop Fredricks explained that love for God and others is shown as members understand the great and marvelous work prophesied about in Doctrine and Covenants section four is more than missionary work alone, but that it is the work of the restoration - the work of salvation. Members participate in this great and marvelous work by living the gospel of Jesus Christ, caring for those in need, inviting all to receive the gospel and uniting families for eternity.
President Owan talked about Sam I Am from the book, Green Eggs and Ham. He shared that Sam I Am invited the old man many times to try green eggs and ham and was rejected time and again. In the story the old man finally agrees to try green eggs and ham in an attempt to get Sam I Am to stop. President Owan asked members to consider if they are as persistent and tenacious as Sam I Am. He stated that the Lord's work is going to move forward and that invitation is extended for members to accept the opportunity to participate in the great and marvelous work of salvation and exaltation.
The ward conference for Maili Kai Ward was on February 23, 2025 at the Kalaeloa chapel on Lauwiliwili street. The ward theme for 2025 is found in Doctrine and Covenants 6:36, "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not."
Bishop Suaʻava shared the story of Peter walking on the water to Jesus. He shared from Elder Alvin F. Meredith III, October 2021 talk, "Look Down the Road". Members need to focus on Christ in daily prayer, family prayer and church attendance. Ward members should be aware of distractions and to do the things that need to be done. These things include: paying tithing, attending the temple, completing four-generation family tree, holding family council and getting your patriarchal blessing. Members are reminded that as was with Peter, we can be rescued by asking Heavenly Father for help.
President Owan focused on looking to Christ in every thought. He shared thoughts from President Nelson' s, April 2017 talk, "Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives," on being powerful disciples being riveted and rigorous. When we put Christ as the focus of our lives day in and day out, in every thought, we can push through the things that might try to take us off course. We can have the faith to feel Heavenly Father's presence and love.
The Waianae Ward Conference was held on February 16, 2025 at the Waianae Chapel on Plantation Road, with a ward conference theme from Moroni 7:45-46,
"And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail"
Bishop Daniel Kanana shared that we can pray for love for others. We can pray for patience and understanding and that we can add love to the people and spaces around us. He also encouraged ward members to show gratitude whenever the thought comes to mind in an effort to stop taking things for granted.
President Brennen Owan shared an exercise from the lesson on Moroni 7 from last year's Come Follow Me where members were encouraged to replace the word charity with the name of Jesus Christ in the scripture Moroni 7:45-46. The reason that charity never faileth is because charity, is the pure love of Christ. If charity never faileth that must mean charity always succeeds. In turn, if Christ never faileth, then Christ always succeeds.
The Nānākuli Ward Conference was held on January 26, 2025 at the Waiʻanae Chapel on Plantation road. Their ward theme for 2025 is a quote from Pres. Nelson, “Come unto Christ and ‘offer your whole [soul]’ to Him. This is the secret to a life of joy!”
Bishop Cristanto talked about the banyan tree at Nānākuli Beach Park and compared the many tiny aerial roots to individuals in the ward. Ward members are descended from our Heavenly Father and serve to stabilize the community. He shared Matthew 11:28 and expressed that our Saviour is asking us to come unto Him. To come unto Christ, to bring our families while leaving the world behind. To come together, to teach and edify together and to worship together.
Pres. Owan touched on positive momentum. He shared the five points from Pres. Nelsonʻs talk, "The Power of Spiritual Momentum": 1) Get on the covenant path and stay there. 2)Discover the joy of daily repentance. 3)Learn about God and how He works. 4)Seek and expect miracles. 5)End conflict in your personal life.
The Waianae 2nd Branch Conference was held on January 19, 2025 at the Waianae Chapel on Plantation Road. Branch Conference focused on scriptures found in Doctrine and Covenants 88: 119, "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;" and Psalm 127: 1-2, "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain...It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep."
Branch President Losemani Alone invited branch members to prepare themselves and every needful thing. He further urged them to establish their homes as houses of prayer and scripture study. Branch members were encouraged to prepare, organize and establish a home-centered, church supported approach to home life and worship that extends beyond the chapel on Sundays.
After the youth sang a musical number, "I Will Find You My Friend," Stake President Brennen Owan shared that we are blessed to be able to find our friends that still need the gospel in their lives and that Heavenly Father will lead us to those He has prepared for us. President Owan also talked about being faithful and faithless. He share the story of Jesus walking on the water in Matthew 14:26. When Peter was faithful he was able to walk on the water. When Peter was faithless he began to sink.
